Jack Mackie's Tornado Memorial commemorates the 1890 storm that ravaged Louisville, killing over 100 people and destroying nearly 800 buildings. Still considered one of the deadliest storms in the history of the United States, the tornado ripped down Main Street, traveling from Parkland to Crescent Hill. The memorial, located at 801 West Main Street, is over a story tall and is decorated with etched plaques replicating contemporary photographs of the storm's devastation.

Jack Mackie is a nationally recognized public artist and planner based in Seattle, Washington. During the mid—1990s, Mackie worked with EDAW Landscape Architects to create Louisville's historic West Main Street corridor. (KG)
